Newcastle – INTERROGATING THE GROOMING GANGS SCANDAL

16 September 2025, categories: Child abuse, Immigration, Meetings, Newcastle

Have we faced the truth about the Grooming Gangs scandal, which has subjected thousands of girls to abuse? What could have been done differently in handling these cases and what needs to change to prevent this from continuing or happening again?

For decades, the Grooming Gangs scandal has been a stain on our society, with thousands of vulnerable girls in towns like Rotherham, Rochdale, Oxford, Telford and Newcastle subjected to unimaginable abuse. Yet, despite inquiries and convictions, the question remains: have we really faced the truth, or are we still turning a blind eye?

The exploitation of these young people – often ignored or dismissed by those meant to protect them – raises urgent questions about accountability, cultural sensitivities, and the courage it takes to speak out.

A national inquiry has finally been promised, but are we ready to face the reality of how these young people have been let down by society and the state, or are we still cowering behind excuses?

This topic will be introduced by PiPs Newcastle member Daniel Stapleton.
