Manchester – The War in Iran
This session will examine the case for external intervention in Iran from the standpoint of someone with direct cultural and personal ties to the country. Raised in Iran to see America and Israel as enemies of his people, our speaker brings a perspective that is anything but predictable – because he’s come to argue the opposite of what you might expect.
It will begin by outlining the realities of life under the current regime, and how its domestic and regional actions shape both internal dissent and international concern.
From there, we will explore the rationale often put forward in support of involvement by the United States and Israel, weighing strategic interests against ethical considerations. Attention will also be given to historical context, including past interventions, and what they suggest about the risks, limitations, and potential outcomes of action versus restraint.
This discussion invites participants to engage critically and thoughtfully, setting aside slogans and assumptions in favour of deeper analysis.
