Our guest speaker for this meeting will be Sue Moore-Holmes who will talk about why she thinks the current curriculum in England is failing our children in the Years 7-12, age 11-16 yrs.

As a woman in my 70s I was dismayed to see that my 16 year-old grandson has been studying the very same books that I did over 50 years ago. I found them boring then; he thinks they are entirely irrelevant.

I would like to propose some different subjects for the core curriculum and present these to you with an overview of their content and why I think they are more appropriate to today.

• Money management
• Critical reasoning
• Time management and organisation
• Understanding local and national democracy

I am not a teacher, so this is a view of an ordinary person living in our extra ordinary world.

I look forward to feedback and discussion, and to think about ways we could campaign for change.

About our speaker

Sue is mother, grand-mother and great-grand-mother. She has worked with children and families for over 50 years, qualified as a social worker in 1987, and has always been an active volunteer.
